Prof. Dr.-Ing. Andreas Jossen

Prof. Andreas Jossen has made sustained contributions to engineering research in the field of electrical thermal coupled battery models, performance and lifetime models, battery state of charge and battery state of health determination methods, battery characterization, energy management and battery management, battery safety including models for battery safety, multi-cell storage systems, battery system architecture, battery integration in electric vehicles and grid integration, photovoltaic systems and portable systems. His work is related to fundamental model development as well as experimental work to determine parameters and to verify the models. Research work is also done in cooperation with other departments, as Physic or Chemistry. Within this interdisciplinary work fundamental measurement methods (as neutron diffraction) are brought together with battery technology to observe and investigate fundamental battery internal mechanism. Such fundamental work is used to develop improved battery models, taking aging effects into account. These models are used to optimize operation methods of storage systems with the target to minimize overall costs.
