Horst Mettlach studied electrical engineering at Aachen University of Technology (RWTH Aachen) and Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU Trondheim) and joined the Electric Vehicle group of Adam Opel AG in 1995.

During his career, Horst Mettlach worked on the development of battery systems of different technologies (lead acid, NiMH, NaNiCl and Li-Ion) for Electric, Fuel Cell and Extended-Range Electric Vehicles (Chevrolet Volt and Opel Ampera). In addition, he represents Adam Opel AG / Opel Automobile GmbH in national and European research projects as well as in standardization committees and national and European working groups on electrical energy storage systems.

His current position is „Global Technical Specialist“ for rechargeable energy storage system with focus on development of MHEV Li-Ion battery systems for Groupe PSA.
